Campaign Link vs. Memorable URL Overview

Last Updated: Mar 06, 2018 09:51AM EST

Within the Ambassador Portal, your ambassadors can access two link types: campaign link(s) and a memorable URL. These links are used in different scenarios and can be customized in separate ways.

What is the difference between a campaign link and a memorable URL?

When setting up your campaign, you will be required to add a landing page URL in the Campaign Setup section. This is an ambassador’s campaign link and it varies by campaign. When your ambassador shares their campaign link and someone clicks on it, the link will point to the URL you’ve designated. The campaign link looks like this:

The memorable URL, in contrast, will remain the same for the duration of an ambassador’s participation in your referral program and points to the longest-running campaign the ambassador was enrolled in. The memorable URL contains your company name and looks like this:

Can I customize the campaign link?

By default, the ambassador’s campaign link will be displayed as followed by their unique short code (ex. If you have an Enterprise plan with Ambassador, you are able to customize the link by setting up a custom short domain in the advanced options within your Campaign Setup.

For example, if you create the subdomain and point the CNAME DNS record to, you could create a vanity URL where the campaign link would be This allows you to mask the portion of the link

Can I customize the memorable URL?

By default, the ambassador’s memorable URL will be displayed as followed by several numbers that serve as a unique identifier (ex. If you have an Enterprise plan with Ambassador and set up a custom short domain for your campaign link, you can use the same subdomain to customize your memorable URL.

For example, if you create the subdomain for your campaign link, we can include a path in the URL (ex. refer) to customize the memorable URL as well. In this example, the customized memorable URL would be To customize the memorable URL, please email with the subdomain and path you would like to use.

Your ambassadors also have the ability to customize their memorable URL to include a username. This is completed by the ambassador within the Portal.

For example, if an ambassador enters a username, such as “Kait,” the memorable URL would look like this: If you have an Enterprise plan and customized the link as outlined above, the link would look like this: If your ambassadors have questions about how to customize their memorable URL, you can send them our support article: How do I customize my memorable URL?

When should I use a campaign link or a memorable URL?

In most cases, you will direct ambassadors to use the campaign link. This ensures that ambassadors are sending referees to the correct campaign landing page, especially when they are enrolled in multiple campaigns. If an ambassador is in a single campaign and you are not on an Enterprise plan, using the memorable URL is a way that you can still customize the link.

Please note, by default, the Ambassador email templates pull in the {memorable_url} tag. We suggest updating this to the {campaign_link} tag to pull in the campaign link instead. Where are these links found?

Within the Ambassador Portal, the campaign link will be included in the top right corner. If an ambassador is enrolled in multiple campaigns, the memorable URL and campaign links can be found in a drop-down menu titled “All Campaigns.”

If an ambassador is in a single campaign, the campaign link will be found in the top right corner and the memorable link will be located in the left sidebar below their avatar.
